Description

Our Group offers consulting services in the area of geotechnical earthquake and foundation engineering. Over the past 15 years, we have participated in the design of major infrastructure projects in Greece, but also in Europe, U.S.A., and the Middle East.

More specifically, we specialize in : (a) Static & Dynamic Analysis and Design of Special foundations (pile groups, caissons, and composite systems ; application in Bridges, Nuclear Power Plants, and Buildings), (b) Analysis and Design of Deep Excavations & Retaining Structures (e.g. Metro Stations), (c) Static & Dynamic Analysis and Design of Bored and Immersed Tunnels, (d) Static & Dynamic Analysis of Earth and Tailings Dams, (e) Static & Dynamic Analysis of Harbour Quay Walls, (f) Dynamic Analysis of Train-induced Vibrations (railway, metro, and tram turnouts and crossings), (g) Earthquake engineering and Soil Dynamics (microzonation studies, seismic hazard assessment, probabilistic estimation of seismic vulnerability of structures and infrastructure facilities), (h) Geotechnical design.

Having been established as one of the international experts in the field of advanced geotechnical analysis and Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI), our group was the one to design the foundations of most of the facilities constructed for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games (including the 300 m Arch Roof of the Olympic Stadium).

Being on the edge of applied research, and in collaboration with the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics of the National Technical University of Athens, our group is constantly developing new analysis and design methodologies, and advanced numerical codes. Two such examples are: (i) numerical codes for non-linear dynamic analysis of soil columns and piles, and (ii) new methodology for the design of structures to withstand fault-induced displacements. The latter has already been applied for the design of a housing complex, a three-span road bridge, and cut-and-cover tunnels.
